Saturday Fish Fry

Twice a year, in April and October, the folks at St. John's Baptist Church in Climax, North Carolina put on a fish fry. White fish with hush puppies and fries. Proceeds go to their building fund.

Shiloh Tea

Shiloh Church in Troy, North Carolina was decorated in natural Christmas decorations, greenery and candles Saturday afternoon for their annual Christmas Tea. Tea and cookies were served to chamber music and the bagpipes.

Kelly Hinson appeared in period costume to greet the guests.

Shiloh Church

Shiloh Church (Methodist), built around 1883 in a grove of oaks near Troy in Montgomery County, North Carolina. The pews date back to an earlier 1836 log church. There are two doors in the front, one for men to enter and the other for the women. The building also served double duty as a school.

In Grays Chapel, we missed the heavy snows that most of the East Coast got this past weekend. We seemed to be on the dividing line between rain/sleet and the heavy stuff, but we did get enough to whiten the ground, but not the trees. Photograph is of Melancthon Lutheran Church in eastern Randolph County.

Melancthon

A local landmark in my community that I drive by almost daily is the old Melancthon Lutheran Church in Melancthon, south of Greensboro, in Randolph County. Largely unused now, it is one of the few rural Lutheran churches I know of in our area. Simple and white, it has stood the ravages of time since it's organization in 1850.
